I’ve written a book.

For years, I’ve been drawn to the same question in different places: what happens when efficiency replaces relationships?

Through The Frightened Face of Nature bog, I’ve explored that in our relationships with the natural world. (So did Maxwell Knight).

In 2025, like many parents, I watched Adolescence on Netflix. I couldn’t stop thinking about how technology is changing the way children learn, think, and decide whom to trust.

The more I looked, the more I saw AI’s role in that. And the more I felt it needed to be written about.

I couldn’t shake one main question: What if the next voice they trust isn’t yours?

Why? Around 81% of children aged 11 – 16 already use AI, and around a third already consider it a ‘friend.’

Am I the only one worried about that?

If you’d like to know a little more about the book and the project, please join me here: https://simonhking.co.uk/what-if-the-next-voice-they-trust-isnt-yours/

Thank you.

One response to “I’ve written a book.”

  1. WE TRIED TO POST THIS:

Well done, Simon. Writing a book is no mean feat. You (and your family) now deserve a break!

As authors ourselves, we are always mindful of what Winston Churchill said:

“*Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a *

master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be *reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and *

fling him out to the public.”

    Best wishes
