The Future of Global Trade – Expert Forum, Whitehall Suite, Royal Horseguards, Wednesday 27th June 2018
Event Overview
The Future of Global Trade – Expert Forum (27th June 2018) was a small, senior-level roundtable, which was hosted by the Secretary of State for International Trade, Rt. Hon. Dr Liam Fox at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, Westminster.
The Forum brought together 75 ministers, officials, business representative, academics and trade practitioners, with the main aim of gathering the latest research, expertise and experience. The emphasis on cutting-edge analysis was effective in encouraging expert-led discussions on the future of global integration and economic growth, given the dynamic developments and constraints that we observe today.
The panel discussions were carefully curated to authoritatively cover relevant themes in each panel. As a new department, this was an exercise in building our external stakeholder engagement; helped to signal DIT thought leadership and fostered open – sometimes frank – dialogue with leading voices. Indeed, the Forum was set up specifically to ensure that all voices in the room, not just panellists, could contribute to the ongoing discussions. All discussions took place under Chatham House Rules.
The Forum outcomes will be used to inform additional events ‘in the Future of Global Trade’ series events led by DIT Analysis Group for senior global business leaders at the C-Suite level.
Simon King attended as a Northern Powerhouse Champion and Board of Trade 2018 winner (Haith’s) and will be preparing a ‘short think piece’ on his particular areas of interest in future trade and investment, namely digital.
