Dear Simon, John and Margaret

We have written a very quick note below from our encounter a few days ago and also attached a couple of pictures if you would like any of them for FFON.

We were lucky enough to find our first ever slow worm in the garden yesterday which was absolutely wonderful. Rowan was fascinated to find out, from Professor John Cooper, that its scientific name “Anguis fragilis” means “fragile snake”, but it’s actually a lizard.

She was very careful when gently handling it to ensure it did not drop its tail (although this individual looked as though it had done so in the past). We have our fingers crossed that we will see other individuals in the garden over the next few months.

Many thanks and all the best.

Michelle
